Consequences of living past 100 with telomerase
Long life span is not that good in some cases, it can be overwhelming and hard to bare. There are different opinions in this respect. Very few people would like to live to 100 or so. Recent statistics shows that the most desired age is between 80 and 90 years old. ¼ of the polled said they would really like to live till 100. People do not care about such a long life span even if there is a chance that medicine or telomerase supplements make it possible. The only reason for that is people fail to believe that it is possible to enjoy life at such an old age is because they hate to be helpless and disabled at the end of the day and a thought of becoming a load to the relatives.Besides more and more old people do not believe that when they are that old, there will be somebody to take care of them, except for a nursing home. And what’s good of being lonely when you have done so much to children on which you cannot relay? Most people do not even want to live to that age in order not to witness their children’s cruelty. There are those who are afraid of spending the whole day in bed or in a chair without being able to work. People, mostly women, of course, do care about their looks when they are 100 years old. That’s why supplements like telomerase are selling like crazy these days. However, did anyone consider what can be the consequences of people taking telomerase and living past 100? I mean in terms of social aspect and population issues. Demographic situation is critical now, there are more people dying then being born, the tendency is negative. There is a chance for positive trends in case scientists learn how to prolong human’s life span. On the other hand, serious changes are foreseen in society: the more elderly people there will be the more health care institutions will be required and thus more workforce will be employed in this sector. Social security and other retirement plans will be reconsidered because people will work longer and will enjoy their retirement longer as well.
